Purpose ​

Artificial intelligence and robots are changing how our world works. All of us must rapidly adapt to survive, yet none of us have time to study dense technical materials, learn coding, or do extensive coursework. The good news is that now there’s a mini-course that can help.
This high-intensity, full-day course gives participants an introduction to artificial intelligence that is fascinating and practical. No prior technical experience is needed or expected. By the end of the course, participants will understand the key concepts that drive modern artificial intelligence and what their organization can do to adapt and thrive.

"Artificial Intelligence for Regular People" is taught by Dr. Hod Lipson, a highly experienced instructor who has taught executives from global companies such as Deloitte, Google, Exxon, Baidu, Tencent, Citibank, Lloyds, Deutsche Telekom, YPO, EO, and more. Dr. Lipson is a Professor of Engineering and Data Science at Columbia University, TED speaker, Forbes "Top-Seven Data Scientists in the world", and a highly-cited AI scientist and roboticist.  Hod is known for his witty and warm teaching style and his ability to effectively explain complex technical concepts to non-technical people. This workshop is ideal for anyone seeking a better understanding of how artificial intelligence works, and why it continues to have such an outsized impact on our world.  Participants will gain both practical and conceptual knowledge about modern artificial intelligence.  Previous participants have included executives, lawyers, medical professionals, artists and non-technical people who are interested in staying up to date. 

Course Format

​This course is full day of lively lectures blended with intensive Q&A.  Hod personally guides students through a series of targeted activities and discussions to help them apply the abstract concepts introduced in the lecture.  Throughout the course, Hod explains new technical concepts in everyday jargon-free language and provides many real-world examples of how leading companies are harnessing the power of artificial intelligence.

Goals and Learning Objectives ​

By the end of the course, participants will understand how modern AI works and how to create an AI-informed strategy for their own organization or industry.
  • Conceptual mastery of the basics of how artificial intelligence works, what it can do, and what it cannot do, including ethical, policy and social considerations. 
  • Practical insight by studying selected real-life “best practices” of the different ways companies are using artificial intelligence to gain leverage in their industry. 
  • No coding. No programming will be done, nor are coding skills required. This is a strategy-oriented course.
